Raised beds in our Victory Garden
The Victory Garden
The Victory Garden was begun by parishioner Jimmy Nelson. Anyone - parishioners and non-parishioners alike - are given 4ft X 4ft raised beds to plant whatever vegetation they like. Each person planting the vegetation is responsible for his/her own crop. The items harvested may either be donated to a local food pantry or may be taken home. It is up to the individual how he/she wishes to participate in the Victory Garden.
Eastside Ministries
St. Luke's in the Meadow has partnered with Eastside Ministries to assist those in particular zip codes on the Eastside of Fort Worth who need additional assistance in particular areas. Eastside Ministries of Fort Worth is a faith-based voluntary nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that is supported by churches, organizations, businesses and Individuals. Its sole purpose, without discrimination, is to serve local needy families, the elderly, handicapped and homeless persons living in zip codes 76103, 76112, and 76120.
Many Eastside residents are in need of help each day. Some of those individuals go to area churches daily seeking food, clothing, and other support. In 1985, Eastside area churches from many denominations joined together to form a single nonprofit organization to address these needs. The creation of a single service location, Eastside Ministries, for residents who are in crisis has proven to be mutually beneficial to all parties and is far better at providing for the area needy than what the individual churches could do by themselves.
